>>>"We should do nothing until the politics are in line, not back a brutal dictator against the majority Sunni."

The situation in place is Maliki has been alienating Sunnis since we started to leave in 2011. This is a response to that, which apparently was predicted by the military chief of staffs back in the Spring. Obama ignored their advice to do something then.

Now the population of this take over of the North is radical Al Qaeda who are beheading infidels and burning anything that is not according to their view of a Caliphate government all along the way. I hope you realize what this means. Do you support it?

It is too late to do anything which would reconcile the North and South of Iraq, short of global warfare. McCain seems to think reconciliation is politically do-able, I don't and I would label that particular idea as naïve unless he includes a full out war against the northern Sunni forces, which I don't think he can get support for.

Maliki failed as a leader who would govern all of Iraq even handedly, and Obama has failed to keep up our end of responsibility for situation that was handed over to him.

The establishment of radical Al-Qaeda control from Eastern Syria through Northern Iraq is now a fact that is unlikely to change without major militaristic intervention. As you pointed out they see themselves representing the interests of 85% of the 2 billion population of Muslims. Do you think they are done with this movement? I don't. If not stopped now, which I don't see happening, this will rapidly spread. We are witnessing the development of a front of war that will be of biblical proportions when it hits its full stride.

If you look at Islamic history (written by Muslims) you will see that it is bolstered by stories of a small number of warriors defeating enemies that vastly outnumbered them and who had superior weaponry. We just noticed an army of 500,000 trained and equipped by the biggest super power the world has ever know, retreat, give up, and cut and run in the face of 80k jihadis. I guarantee throughout the world stories are being told about angels supporting this insurgency. Including the retreat of America in the face of this committed force. I will repost this paragraph because this post is too long.

It is what it is.

I do think it is time for everyone to drop the partisan bs and think this through in a cooperative and constructive manner.
