Hi Broken_Clock; Re: "what are you talking about? Neither you nor Brumar can come up with documented evidence of anything other thn oil as a reason why we are even in the ME blowing up countries.";

The US ends up fighting in a lot of places that don't have significant amounts of oil. Afghanistan, Korea and Vietnam come to mind. If you count places where we have substantial military the count goes up.

That said, I would prefer that we pull most of the US military back to the US and reduce our forces by as much as 75% in favor of spending on NASA. However, the election of Obama didn't exactly move us forward on that goal. And he uses drones as much as anyone. In short, the reputation of democrats as peacemongers is highly exaggerated. I've little doubt that if republicans had been elected instead of Obama, they'd still have pulled out of Iraq. The will to fight decays and that is a political fact that crosses the left/right division.

There's just no way in Hell that the US should be defending Shiites in Iraq when they're the majority of the population but apparently won't defend themselves. Iraq is one of the most heavily armed countries on the planet. It's ridiculous to claim that they require US assistance:
