Microchip enters tagging arena

Microchip Technology has ventured into the world of tagging with a family of RFID (radio frequency identification) tag chips. The family, called microID, is a four chip group which can be "dropped into existing applications". Its claimed merits include range and a broader feature set.
Microchip is aiming at existing markets like access control, industrial and animal tagging in addition to the disposable applications like retail and postal tagging that all vendors hope will develop.
