To be clear, the total expenditure was in excess of $300 Million. And with that money they could have hired probably 300 doctors for five years, which would have resulted in a significant improvement in the care of veterans and in fact may well have gotten them through the crisis. It would definitely have made a huge difference. If you believe otherwise, you're clueless.

It is true that a shortage of providers isn't the ONLY problem at VA; the fundamental problem is that government does not function well enough to be running large, mission critical health care facilities managing day-to-day care when politics are involved.

Well, I guess you know me better than I know myself, because I have no idea under those circumstances what my view might have been. Government was far more competent at that time than it is now.
