One of the things they taught us when I was an undergrad. in History is that recurring themes the highly creative fields of art, music, literature or drama, anticipate major social, economic and political trends. Sometimes by decades.

How bout Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, by Dylan?! Think that puts a fine point on what is, even now, only beginning to unfold in America.

Talk about a visionary genius?! His old girl friend used to say he was channeling Woodie Guthrie. The only comparable I can find in Western verse is Coleridge. But Dylan has been vastly more prolific.
