Daewoo to Manufacture IBM RS/6000 in Pact

SEOUL -- Daewoo Telecom Co., Ltd. said it will build IBM Corp.'s RS/6000 series computers under a technological agreement.

Daewoo will manufacture the RS/6000 series computers for the domestic market with IBM's technological support under a contract signed by representatives Ki-bum Yoo of Daewoo and Jae-chul Shin of IBM Korea Ltd.

Daewoo also will market the computers under its own brand name and DTC-4000 model number for both the domestic and international markets.

Daewoo has been selling RS/6000 computers on a OEM basis since 1993 for the domestic market.

Daewoo will begin production of 400 RS/6000 computers per month in October at its Sihung plant.
