they don't stand up well to SF...........except for........wait for it.......earthquakes
And California has not had a major one for decades, so no one remembers anymore. Honestly, even Northridge was not that big and it was 20 years ago or so.

When my mother lived in LA, she had earthquake insurance and she was probably the only one on the block with it...
