Don't pretend you are a moron.

Oh wait, you aren't pretending...

What part of "were" didn't you understand?

Syria was part of the coalition that booted Saddam from Kuwait in Gulf War I. Granted, when Bashar came to power, relations started to improve, but they never were warm.

As to the rest of your word salad, the Ba'athists in Iraq are primarily Sunni. The ones in Syria are Shia. While officially the Ba'athist movement is secular, Saddam, in particular, wasn't all that rigorous about it in the wake of the Iraq-Iran war.

In case you are unaware, Sunnis and Shiites consider the other to be apostates. They don't get along. The only thing that keeps them from each others throats is a strongman who doesn't let them go at it. Which is why the countries with both sects are ruled by strongmen.

Which is what Smirk and the neocons didn't understand.
