The margins don't indicate 'more expensive'. If the PowerPC was 'cheaper', then people would buy it rather than Intel. Also, Cyrix and AMD may do well out of the NC, but my understanding is that Intel has a large fraction of the worlds fab capacity. They should be able to do well producing low speed Pentiums, if that was profitable for them.

As for IBM, vertically integrated often means the worst of each world, rather than 'synergy'. I don't see IBM being lower cost than an Intel/Compaq combination.
