Rob,

One more point I should add to the list of global macro-economic developments.

Today, Japan's greatest fear is that Korea can dominate the export market in which Korean are as good as the Japanese. The Japanese government (through IMF funding and direct lending that Korea has refused so far) will make it as costly to Koreans as possible by raising the cost of funds (which they have done) and by devaluing yen. Even countries like India had a strong currency and no need to devalue; but she devalued rupee to compete in the export market.

Thus, the cost of Korean goods will be made to match with the Japanese goods. Korea knows that this is artificially imposed on them, but she has no choice in this matter. Korea has simply no leeway to dump because they have to pay back high interests on loans. Thus, the cost of MKE production will match with that of Maxtor and others. Of course, one has to look at QNTM's quality products.
