It isn't manual, although it is expensive. And there is little chance of Apple being involved in that process at all for the foreseeable future. Standards tend to look forward for years (in the case of ICD10 it is been more than a decade in the making).

There is literally no information that Apple systems might provide that are going to be incorporated in claim standards in the coming 5-7 years.

While most claims (probably 93%) are filed electronically today, there continues to be little provision for data that doesn't fit neatly into the ANSI 835/837 formats.

While the Apple HealthKit might someday develop into something of value I really question the interest the healthcare industry might have in that data until you have cheap, noninvasive sensors for things bloodwork, urinalysis, etc., I wonder...
