Shortage of shallow (to 3,000') and mid depth (to 5,500') rigs has developed in this part of WV (NW quadrant) YTD. Small independents (who drill most of the wells) are finding it hard to schedule their drilling programs.
Shallow & mid depth equipment tied up, in extended contracts, for vertical portion of big Marcellus and Utica horizontal projects.
One CEO, I know (who called me Sat)., is using Jarvis, a slant driller, for his shallow to start his shallow and mid depth wells then doing one horizontal lateral. Nobody else in this area of the basin, that I know of, has tried that approach.
OT/He wants me to help him flesh out his company structure to eventually go public. Told him it will take A LOT to pull me out of "retirement". He he he...
