There are multiple ways I find music. Almost never by "this music is similar to music I already like."

I take advice from people who are really good musicians or people who have taste outside the norms and I respect their intelligence.

But mostly I just dig around a LOT. I reject a lot. Like blues, I don't like much. Willie Dixon, and Howlin' Wolf I like totally. Little Walter some. I don't like a lot of Jazz. But what I do like I collect fiendishly. I don't like much classical but what I do like... What I like best can't be put into genre. Like Le Monte Young, or Henry Cow. Or they might be not as well known in a genre like the Stranglers, best punk band ever but rarely given that distinction.

I've bought records purely because I liked the cover. Still a huge fan of early Split Enz and more contemporary work by their original guitar Phil Judd whom is now a friend/acquaintance. The cover is a painting by Phil. I first bought this record because of the cover. He's quite a good painter in addition to being one of the best rock guitarists nobody's ever heard of. Enz fans are divided into Phil era and post Phil era fans. Phil is the bald guy.

I bought this record because of the cover the same night. I'm a pretty good painter. I still can't figure out how the painter pulled this off. How does one go about weaving acrylic paint? I like entertainment music but music in its highest form is ART.
