Perhaps a tough question on MLP tax issues. I know if a US person receives a certain amount of UBTI income from MLPs they then have tax issues.

Does anyone know how this type of thing applies to non-US entities? I have a non-US friend who is buying some US MLPs.

Normally for non-US entities there is an automatic tax withheld from regular dividends at a set flat rate whch varies by foreign country. This withholding cannot be reclaimed from the US. They may be able to get some benefit in their home country from paying this withholding tax, depending on the tax rules of their home country.

Does anyone know if MLP distributions have a different tax treatment than regular dividends for non-US entities?
