I understand that, but in the near term, I am not sure that this increase in interest rate will be enough to bring our C$ back to a more comfortable level for our importers without cutting down in their own gross margin .

What did the Canadian Central Bank was just a precaution to support the C$ at .70 from going lower. That won't be of any help IMO to give it enough strenght to start a new trend back up.

I do think that neither the Central Bank nor the Federal Reserve Bank will let the C$ go below that psychologically level for many reasons.

1) It would create a bigger trade imbalance between the two countries and we (canadians) are the ones who will benefit the most.

2) Your goods will be more expensive
here and the sales of u.s. items will probably slow down in Canada.

3) There will be certainly less canadians who will cross the borders
since it isn't worthwile anymore , not at .70C$ to a us$

What do you think ?

I already see it in my own retail store.
Even though the economy is statistically in good shape, our cash register has never ring so few times.
I expect the holiday retail period to be very bad this year.

Happy investing ! Not in a retail store these days... unless you own a Costco, Wal Mart or one of those big retails warehouses. I wish I had kept my Costco shares at 23$ I had earlier this year.

Now I am down with QNTM shares that nobody seem to own anymore.

How long will it takes to go back to 35.$ May take a while IMO.

Richard
