Thanks for your reply. I have known Gigabit Ethernet for a quite while. But I had never heard about Fast EtherRing(TM) Switch even I used to work for ADCT. Anyway, I believe Fast EtherRing(TM) Switch is just for niche markets and it has no technology breakthrough(just GE+FIBER+SWITCH+some tricky network interface),IMHO. To my understanding, it tries to integrate Ethernets and SONET together for LAN, CAMPUS, and some MAN applications. I don't believe it will grab any significant MAN and WAN market shares from other technologies like SMDS, X.25, FDDI, Frame Relay, and ATM.

There are some discussions here about GE and ATM. My opinion is that Ethernet(10/100/Gigabit) will dominate LAN and campus while ATM/SONET will rule backbones and backbone(public) network access. Even for LAN, it still needs protocols like Frame Relay and ATM to access public network.
