Within a month or two it was clear the problem was beyond mistakes; it quickly became about arrogance, intransigence, defiance, and division. Those are not characteristics of someone you have any respect for. After the first month or two respect was off the table from my POV. It was just a matter of trying to get through it without too much damage.
