Yeah, I know. I'm in the statistics business and direct a fairly large team of Six Sigma and big data analytics experts. We're a process improvement team. However, what if the GDP figures are completely bogus, because the deflator is hopelessly understated and has been for many years? Then that -2.9% is not an anomaly, but part of a broader trend of lower highs and lower lows and more frequent recessions and long lingering malaise, papered over with money printing and massively increasing leverage? What if GDP itself, even if inflation is measured properly, is not a statistic that has a high correlation with the underlying real economy and the financial health of the average US citizen? Then what we have is one massive illusion sold to us by one giant propaganda machine.

I learned long ago with government statistics to never take any number at face value. You have to look under the covers. If anyone is terrible at compiling statistics that are good at measuring what they purport to measure, then it is our government.
