Hi Dwight,

Unfortunately, Nokia's current CDMA phones are built on the 2110 platform that is slightly dated. The company is putting most of its muscle in GSM and Japanese model makeover. New CDMA models built on the 8110 platform should be introduced next year. Meanwhile, Nokia's CDMA phones probably are vulnerable to predatory pricing. I think the real competition is about to break out by next spring. The pace of product introductions in this standard has been curiously sluggish. Anyway, it's great that the Koreans don't do GSM. You don't necessarily need a good product to trigger a price war... a mediocre phone sold dirt cheap can do a lot of damage.
Nokia does have a huge backlog of infrastructure orders... but American investors have a long history on panicking on bad news on Nokia, so if the pace of new orders slows down the actual sales improvements may not offset that. It's nice that Ericsson is so sanguine. They do have a point: if China can keep itself from being entangled in this mess the damage to mobile companies may be limited. Fortunately China is not in direct competition with Korea with its export products (few cars, semiconductors, ships) so they will be under less pressure to counter the devaluation than Japan or Taiwan.
