Less, I think they will actually start framing their underlying assumptions as "beliefs," which they are. No they aren't. Look at Koan and CJ on this thread, for instance. They always frame their underlying assumptions as "facts," not "beliefs."
Look at the laws being passed to try and reverse climate change. The justification for said laws aren't based on "belief," but rather on "fact." It's useless to say, "We believe we're destroying the environment." Instead, they have to say, "We ARE destroying the environment. That's a FACT."
Look at Charlie Rangel trying to reinstate the draft. It used to be that liberals were the ones being conscientious objectors to war. Now liberals are the ones wanting to use war to force people into becoming pacifists.
Back in the early 20th century, atheists argued for 1st amendment protection on the basis that atheism should legally be considered a religion or at least a belief. Now look at atheists today. Not one of them will ever portray their atheism as a religion. "If atheism is a religion, then bald is a hair color," they'll claim.
If liberals ever called their positions "beliefs," they would never be able to force them upon others. Instead, they have to call their positions "fact," or "truth," or "scientific consensus."
