| | | So I refuse to watch the World Cup. Some of the reasons I list here are similar to why I refuse to also watch the Olympics, Super Bowl or any one of the world’s moneyed high-profile sporting events. Based on the responses I have gotten from friends who are avid World Cup fans, I expect this list will generate howls of anger and vociferous defenses of the tournament. What I don’t expect is for soccer mania to wane anytime soon. The lure is just too strong, the emotional stakes too high
we hear this opinion... and so be it.... i say.... there is something called the TURN-OFF (or change the freaking channel) BUTTON.... so WHY the big fuss about it..... ?
as an old fan and former participant at school team level, with relatives and friends who participated at pro level i will give my response to that rant.....
the short version is....
I DO NOT GIVE A RAT'S ARSE ABOUT THESE SOCIAL ENGINEERING AGENDAS, IF THE WRITER OR ANYONE ELS WHO DO NOT LIKE IT.... THEN, TURN OFF THE DAMNED TV
the longer version is....
i've had a LOT of passion for the sport from a long time ago.... as the brasilians put it.... this game is... "el jogo bonito" (or the "beautiful game") and indeed the way brasil can play this game... (when they have a team like the one in the cup of 1970, the era of pele (1958 - 1970) no -one can play like them and that is one of the reason they have 5 championships... even the germans (who have 4) they play a mechanical super efficient game, but they don't have the flair of the brasilians, and i do not believe they will ever reach their level.... in spite of their effectiveness.... true, the real objective is to WIN, but you can win like a robot (like the germans - or dutch for that matter), or you can WIN like the ... 'arteests' that the brasilians are.....
yes, i know how to spell BRAZIL (in english) but when i write about FUTBOL (or futebol in portuguese) i spell the way things ought to be... -gg this year for the sake of the readers, i "misspell" GOL and wrote GOAL instead..... anyway....
so i see this sport as what it is... a game, a beautiful game.... in later years, i became busier with..... "much lesser important things" -lol -and so.... these days i only watch soccer every 4 years for the World Cup... a TRUE sport where the winners are REAL WORLD CHAMPIONS.... (very similar to Formula One racing, another sport -as in Motor Sports- in which i was a participant in the lower formulas way back when)
throughout the years.... FIFA the governing body of the sport.... particularly after the "reign" of joao havelange (a brasilian) the organization has become increasingly participant in the 'social engineering' bs that most leftists are involved in.... they have a "mission" in which they feel they have to tell people how to live and become the very annoying 'do-gooders' they believe they are.... and so... they have created this 'social agenda' which... frankly they have no damned business creating.... FIFA's job is to promote the sport of Football (the real "Football")..... btw as a historical point to some of the critics of the sport.... a LOT of people assume this is a latin-american creation... it is not... the sport was invented in england, and as the english language calls for.... it is called football because..... with the exception of the goalie, everyone MUST use their feet... anyway FIFA has NO reason to be promoting ANYTHING other than football...
as an aside..... why do they call the 'american game in which everyone use (with the exception of the punter) their hands most of the time' -"football"- is a mystery to me... but i digress....
back to the social agenda and the 5 reason why not watch it.....
the writer of that piece is full of BULLSHIT... to begin with. he (or most probably SHE -gg) has her priorities reversed (at least in terms of the jogo bonito) and attempts to inject his/her criticism with her own personal agenda and political views......
THIS IS A DAMNED GAME, NOT the medium through which one will solve social problems and/or human injustices. ALL of the social engineering devised by mostly LIBERALS seem to be failing, but the real point is... i don't care..... all i want to do is..... WATCH THE GAME... enjoy both the skillful players and enjoy the crazy and stupid things their respective fans do.... no, i do not approve of the violence some of the fans..... mostly english and dutch, and most particularly at the club level, not so much at the national events LIKE THE WORLD CUP -by saying so.. i do not deny that there may be some instances that such violence has reared its ugly face....

"tests" -lol (worse than going to the doctor and taking days to know if -after a 'test' you have a disease or not... even doctors have become more efficient..... but not CRICKET..... now... what activity (because i insist, it is not a sport) is called after a damned INSECT.....

5. It is a distraction from things that actually matter.

anyway.... this individual (and i believe anyone who complains about the "world cup excess") does not know the first thing about the sport.... and i believe they feel envious because they just simply have NO IDEA of the passion and excitement that this .... indeed the most popular sport in the world, generates....
true players and lovers of the game, do not worry, suffer, or even CARE for the social injustices, that most certainly the sport is not to blame for..... so why create a straw-man argument that .... some one does not want to watch the game because...... the children in biafra are hungry ? or whatever other political/social engineering bullshit someone is pushing on .... the TWO things are entirely differnt things and one cannot blame every evil thing under the sun on a .... 'popular' sport'....

FIA (that would be the federation internationale de l'automobile) *the governing body for most motor sports, including formula one has ALSO engaged in some b.s. social agenda promoting the use of 'green' cars and have introduced some ridiculous new rules as to how much fuel is used in a race, and the incresing use of electric motors EVEN in formula ONE.... this is PITIFUL it ceases to be a sport and a way to develop the FASTEST cars with the 100% ingenuity of true engineering and imposes limiting factors introducing these bs green agendas......
