Although I was reared in a home where we knew no Blacks somehow I was innately tolerant. The time I was aware of this was when I was just 18 and a counselor at a camp. I was loaned a car by the director who liked me and filled the car with passengers to go to Newburgh NY. for a day off. The director of the camp ( this was in the fifties ) alerted me to the fact that all those counselors who were going with me with of color and that I had better check out any restaurants we went to before they went in to see if they accepted Blacks. I ended up being a co director in an all Black Day care program and you know something. I NEVER SAW COLOR I JUST SAW THE HUMAN BEING......This was the way it always was..... with everyone. By the way the restaurant in Newburgh was fine and the bar we all go smashed at en route back to the camp was fine. (: )
