They did pledge their fortunes in non-monetary ways, there were tying their future to the revolution.

Also I addressed the monetary part as well. Risking your wealth (which is mostly what was meant) or giving or spending your money on an effort, are all different then supporting someone taking from you and from others.

Which is not to say that they didn't accept the idea of taxes, only that pledging their fortunes had just about nothing to do with taxes.

And quit leaning out to each other.
