Which is not to say that they didn't accept the idea of taxes, only that pledging their fortunes had just about nothing to do with taxes.

It had to do with wealth sacrifice for the government. The original point, originally made by the signers of the Decloration of Independence. This country is based on the principle of shared sacrifice for the common good... It's our uniqueness. And it's what made us so great for so many years.
