That's right.........they were in the recession only as long as the US.

Countries that went wild with spending and debt largely are.

Not necessarily..........Spain is still in severe recession and its debt load is very similar to Germany's; in fact, before the recession, Spain was in better shape fiscally than Germany:

You need to understand there is not one economic solution that fits all. That's why you can't rely on some formula or some economic theory to automatically cure what ails you.

And you might want to read up why Germany is doing so well economically despite being what you all would call a welfare state:
