When the Mormons quit interfering as a block in the politics of other states, maybe we'll leave them alone- but their disgusting interference in the gay marriage vote in California is a good enough reason to find them a disreputable force in American politics. They are, as a block, against the freedom of another minority in our country. You don't see gay people banding together to make sure Mormons can't marry- but that's exactly what Mormons did. They should be reviled for that, and for some of their other social interferences. And I do revile them- and I hope other people do too- and I hope we revile all other people who are against the freedom of classes in our society purely based on class- including the right wing nutcases, and the evangelicals who hate gays (and who often overlap with the RW nutcases) and anyone else who wants to use the machinery of the state to take away human rights from other groups of people, just because their imaginary buddy thinks it's a good idea. Religionistas that leave other people alone- great. It's still weird to want to play make believe, but who cares if it doesn't hurt anyone? But when your imaginary buddy interferes in the real concerns of people who are actually demonstrably existing- that's a problem- whether it's the Mormons or Hobby Lobby- it would be nice if folks could refrain from sticking their religion up someone else's nose.

All organized by the church. Upwards of 20 million from Mormon families, as they were being exhorted in their churches to defend marriage. Taxing churches, especially big business churches- like the Catholics, the Mormons and the mega churches- would be a step in the right direction. These organizations function like lobbying groups and pacs- might as well tax 'em.
