no. i never even mention a degree, let alone a phd..... but for you to express an opinion based on.... "what other people say" AND more importantly.... dismiss a very tight game with lots at stake as..... 'boring' it just tells me you do not know much about the game.... period. 'entertainment value' is somehow subjective and very much depends on whose entertainment are we talking about... in this instance.... it seems you are making a judgment about an ENTIRE SPORT based not only on your opinion, but on a 'generic wholesale opinion expressed by others" which now you are making it your own..... however..... ONE game does not make the entire sport. (for starters) you need to analyze who is playing and for what.... true... neither team are what other teams have been in the past, and therefore, the coaches need to establish a strategy with the players they have... messi, they say, is the best player of the game ever... but he has reached that level because (for example) in barcelona, he is surrounded by other great players.... not so much in argentina (not to say they are bad players) .... in this respect, holland probably (as a team) was slightly better than argentina..... HOWEVER.... the execution of the strategies was slightly better by argentina.... and in the end..... (scoring gols) is what counts... and in that instance the argentinenan goalie stopped two of the shots, and the argentineans did not miss a single one..... so what does it take to know futbol..... well... it starts with a great passion for the game.... and if you have played it.... it helps a lot.... finally.... if you do not play, or you have stopped playing.... it takes the love for the game to watch many, many games..... so.. before you say.... 'no wonder they say soccer is a boring game' you better have some facts to say so..... if you are talking about a LOW SCORE... well true... this is not baseball, or basketball, or american football.... it is futbol.... and you when see the players and the public going NUTZ when they score..... it is for a reason.... (which btw... the more it makes that game of germany 7 x 1 brazil that more stunning... because to put 7 gols on brasil.... wow) anyway.... no phd.... more like an appreciation of... el jogo bonito... and maybe.... you just don't like it.... which it is VERY different to say the game is boring..... you want BORING.... try CRICKET... -lol :^) p.s. for more information....
