You are drawing conclusion that IMO are not correct e.g. connecting the great society to the present problems in society. I would argue it is a different set of problems. After LBJ, We had Nixon and Reagan and the neo cons that set us on the path to social destruction. They started destroying the unions and thus the middle class. The right wing started deconstructing important social programs just when we needed them most as we were over run by over population. All the while the plutocrats were draining money needed for public schools and social programs. Today being 65th in the world in inequality is at the root of our problems. And not having affordable public education and affordable health care has really hurt our society. In sum, the problems you are seeing were sewn by the right wing neo cons who destroy everything they touch. Had JFK, bobby K and MLK lived we would live in a much better society today. << Why did we not have much of a ghetto problem or violence or broken homes with single moms raising kids alone before LBJ ushered in his Great Society program? Most amazing that was BEFORE Civil Rights Act of 1964 when open racism in jobs and housing in this country was legal and the black man really did not get the fair shake he gets today. I am with you on education but the breakdown of the family unit, substance abuse and the subsequent lack of personal responsibility are the major culprits of the decline the past 50 years. Talk to any black person with some grey hair and life experience that has succeeded and he or she will agree with me
