"I believe Obama is every bit as much a Roosevelt Democrat as Warren"
That's cuz you listen to what he says, instead of watching what he does. Fer instance, in '10, he said, "we're raising taxes for over $250K,", and he did "no tax increases on the rich, but offset them by cutting SS taxes and LIHEAP." Raygun, OTH, said "cut taxes", and he did "income tax increases, corporate tax increases, SS tax increases, and offset them with military keynesianism".
"in an America not hobbled by racism, would have been as effective in dealing with the issues"
Racism, absolutely, but he flunked effectiveness the day he said, "Cut that stimulus bill in half and make 1/3 of it tax cuts cuz I want Republican votes". He wants to make everybody happy, and that translates into weak policy. You don't necessarily have it correct just because both sides are mad at you. In fact, Senator Obama blew it for President Obama before the inauguration, when he told Reid to keep Lieberman in the caucus, and as a committee chair. His fans saw him as a nice guy, but the R's saw that as an exploitable weakness, and I saw it as "Oh, shit, I hope the R's didn't notice". Things would have been very different if he had been willing to force Lieberman (and Baucus, who was made an ambassador as a reward for his nonsense) to agree before August. Instead, it was daily speeches, saying, "I want it by the end of Feb(I think), IWIBTEOMarch (for sure), IWIBEaster, IWIBTEO July...".
He must be a very permissive father. |
