1) It is a silly thing to say Alaska should use their money to help the kids. I don't control Alaska's wealth. I could say Arkansas should use their money. It is that silly. If you tried to organize a society with your thinking it would be a mess. That is not a serious idea. You just made that up with no attendant logic. You made it up because it was something you thought you could throw at me.

Conservatives do that constantly and it drives me nuts. They just think stuff up they think might make someone look bad and then throw it at the wall. what worries we liberals is you guys too often think it is actually a sound idea

2) I want my federal government to address this issue humanely. They are the proper agency.

3) The oil money did not come from federal lands, it came from STATE lands negotiated when we became a state.

The way the law reads is we put 25% of all income from any natural resources that come from "state owned land" into the permanent fund. Forever. Texas and other states could do that. They all have state land and natural resources. But we liberal dems were the only ones to do it. Because we are not selfish or beholding to the oil companies and were thinking of future generations when the resources are gone.

We have since changed that to 50%. What we dems wanted originally, but could not get form the pubs and oil companies. We also had to pay then off big time to get what we did.

4) I know we are a red state. Now. But when we established the permanent fund we had a blue house and a blue governor (one of the last liberal Republicans). It was the "ad hoc" (hippie dems who controlled the house) and the liberal Bush rat governor that controlled the government during the 70's that saved the state by concentrating on its social infrastructure and establishing the Permanent fund.

Since the right wing took control years ago they have tried every trick in the book to destroy the work we did e..g our present brain dead Tea party gov and solid red legislature refused the free medicade money. Just out of spite. And they keeps reducing money for our social services and schools.

We knew the Republican's and corporations would try and steal the money in the Permanent fund so we made it a 3/4 vote necessary in both houses to touch the principle and we forced yearly inflation proofing based on the CPI and we allow almost no investment IN Alaska, so the investments are spread around the world where the crooks can't get at it.

Texas and all the other states could have done what we did. Put a portion of their resource income into a sovereign wealth fund for the kids. But they were too greedy and too short sighted.

is the federal governments role to address boarder issues, including appropriating money to do that work. States cannot just arbitrarily take over that responsibility. Nor should they. That would make for very treacherous foreign policy.<

Whoaa! We've have deviated way off the topic here. No one asked for funds from the "Permanent Fund" to be used for Border Security, not sure where that came from???

We were discussing children in our society, innocent children not associated with political ideologies. You want to divide them into the "haves" and "have not's" based on geography. Children on this side of the Alaska State line get great schools and a lifetime of financial aid from the proceeds of Oil harvested off of Federal Lands. Children on the other side get squat. Alaska children are entitled because they live on the right side of the tracks. They prosper form the US Treasuries purchase of Alaska with Taxpayer monies from ALL STATES, and the Oil extracted from Federally Owned Lands. Federally Owned means "owned by the Federal Govt", i.e. everyone, not just Alaskans.

<And why should we share our money with Texas. We gave up short term benefits to get long term benefits. Texas could have done what we did, but didn't want to put their money in a savings account for the kids.

Don't think much of Texas Oil came from Federal Lands, same goes for Oklahoma

Again, these are innocent children, you prefer to punish the innocent children by limiting their prosperity and education because of your envisioned "poor choices by a given political party"? That seems elitist.

No, I have to say that this type of thinking of "We have ours, we made good decisions, let the innocent children suffer unequal opportunity because they were born in the wrong state, is a very Right Wing attitude. Not one I would expect from someone who purports to be Extreme Left.

<But we are not going to sacrifice for a state so dumb and heartless they vote in idiots like Bush and Perry who pander to the corporations and refuse to even take the free medicade, shut down planned parenthood and cuts taxes on the rich so much they can't afford a decent educational system.

We are not asking you to sacrifice for a "State", children are innocent and precious that are unaffiliated with given Political ideologies. You want to shackle them with "Red State" ankle bracelets and deny them the proceeds from Federally Owned and Managed Assets... BTW.. Not sure you checked your recent history... but.... you do realize that "speaking of States so dumb and heartless that they vote in idiots like Bush" would happen to INCLUDE ALASKA... Alaska surrendered their 3 Electoral Votes to Bush, not once, but twice in 2000, 2004 with margins of 59% and 61% respectively. So you are not going to "share" with Alaska children either? BTW!! Alaska also surrendered their 3 electoral votes to McCain in 2008, AND Romney in 2012. In addition to the fact that Alaska has ALSO chosen NOT TO expanded Medicade to it's citizens available under the Affordable Care Act.

There seems to be a whole lot of Hypocrisy going on around here?
