It was about the EIC being given a monopoly over tea in the colonies. Which meant that put out of business all of the colonials who dealt in tea. Like John Hancock. The colonials feared, and rightly so, that more areas of the economy would be granted monopolies to British businesses.

If you think the colonials loved the EIC, you are delusional.
