Energy Weekly: So Much for a Tight Crude Market This Summer —
IEA and OPEC put out mildly bearish 2015 forecasts, but geopolitics
are expected to remain supportive
14 July 2014 ¦ 14 pages ir.citi.com

Citi was always dubious that crude markets were going to be tight this summer,
but the complete collapse at the front of the Brent curve is still a shock. Refining
margins have bounced back but this feels more like a result of crude weakness
rather than product strength. Iraqi flows continue uninterrupted and Libya
continues to be tantalizingly close to coming back, but the bullish impact of the
Iraqi turmoil continues to be felt at the back of the curve. The latest monthly
reports from OPEC and IEA extend their global oil demand/supply forecasts to
2015, and both are moderately bearish with a lower call on OPEC crude than this
year. However, both highlight the significant uncertainties over supplies given the
ongoing geopolitical situation across the Middle East.
