I think the long-term growth trends for starage products are very favorable. Its good to see the comments that HDD is becoming less of a commodity due to high IP/technology content. I think we may see a very competitive market into '98 because the most significant driver for the need for larger DDs has had a slow start - internet/communications bandwidth is mired in the ice age of POTs technology. When the new communications technologies get implemented more agressively and build momentum, that will help to drive demand. In the meantime there is likely to be more shake-out of HDD manufacturers and manufacturing capacity cuts at the "big three". The inventory glut will work itself out if PC demand stays healthy. Then if the Asian mfgs. Maxtor, Samsung, and fujitsu adobt rational policies to sell their HDD products at profit levels sufficient to service their debt, SEG, QNTM, and WDC should start to recover sales and earnings momentum by mid '98.
