I often feel like there's an "emperor's new clothes" syndrome involved with nearly unanimous rave reviews of movies, MANY Broadway shows, and even some books (Malcolm Gladwell, I'm talking to you), where everyone sorta piles on and anoints the thing for some unknown reason - sometimes just because it is halfway decent or competent or somehow deserving of respect and there's nothing else out at that moment that is better - and some may disagree but hesitate to go against the tide.
