Elroy, I, and prolly you, have been around long enuf to remember the huge spreads when equities were trading in fractions...was hard to get better than a quarter spread, and if we went in between the bid and ask....they simply ignored us, and traded around, both above, and below.
I'm thinking, even in the 90's, the friggin' brokerage lied and said...YOU can't sell to the ask..YOU have to sell to the bid....YOU aren't due a fill.
Never mind, that even the NEWS was delayed 15 minutes, and went to the market makers first...
Level II, and real time...fuggedaboudit....it was only for the MMs...we still don't get Level III.
Speaking of back in the 60's, 70's, and I think 80's.
So, even if they're cheating us for dribbles and drabs, so many things are so much better for the retail person these days...(looking on the positive side)
And, back to the dark side..the Dark Pools and Foreign exchange trading are an entire other matter... It never ends, the weasels come up w/something new as we, the retail get better service. |
