Had JFK, bobby K and MLK lived we would live in a much better society today.
We would not have had Vietnam (and not even the free spending out of control MIC of today?) or the bloated welfare state without dealmaker/pimp LBJ as president working both sides getting the votes as only he could to push all the crap through? The right wing wasn't deconstructing important social programs in the late 60's and 70's. Was just the opposite and I remember how bad it had gotten by the time Reagan became president. Is funny how Asian immigrants and even to some degree Caribbean immigrants came to this country the past 20-40 years and did quite well even with the deck stacked against them. My parents generation they were also immigrants wasn't easy none of them had a safety net back in the 1950's or bilingual education like a certain large group today. No one expected much from the government just wanted to be free in the land of opportunity, work hard and provide for your family along with some protections for labor instituted under FDR. The great news is I am seeing many more young AA females early 20's now especially that have grown up since middle school and high school with Obama center stage (is cool now to be smart, a nerd and get A's) are really taking a far different path from the past three generations going back over 50 years. Now the boys need to rise up too. Not everyone can be a hoops, hip hop mogul, lawyer or investment banker. Many need to develop blue collar type skills as this group is least likely of any to want to stay in school and get advanced degrees. I am all with you on education but if they aren't motivated it won't matter how much more money you throw their way.
BOTH far right and far left ideologies are really destroying this country at this point since nothing can ever get done anymore. Like a divorced couple not on speaking terms... Time for those of us in the other 65-70% to take back the country before the Fed, being the only game in town, destroys it for good as Mindmeld points out almost daily here. Good lord the plutocrats, sociopathic WS types, zionists, terrorists, mad max Putin, ect.. all love what is going on Koan actually encourage such deep partisan divides to continue in the states as long as possible. At this point I have given up hope anything will change anytime soon. You will have the right wing nuts not into any type of actual governing and problem solving in this ever changing world controlling enough seats in the house plus whoever the next president (let us call her Hillary) will be bowing to the same masters at the controls right now.. More wealth disparity, more asset bubbles, more hollowing out of the middle class, more wars in our future not good Koan.. |
