The 10 trillion is gone and spent on, I agree, largely a useless expenditure on needless wars in places not vital to our interests. To my knowledge they budgeted for this "off the books" so to speak so its not accounted for in regular reports of our deficit. Correct me anyone here if I've got this wrong.

But the salient point of this is that it further constrains our ability to fix our entitlement mess going forward, no?

I agree with you if would be possible to turn red states to blue then your "vision" of "Eden' might actually appear--at least partially. Perhaps in a hundred years when we are all wearing O2 masks people might "get" it.

I do think your experience in state government is not relevant to most of the lower 48--because you didn't face the same budget constraints in a low population high income (oil) state that we do down here. No one down here is getting an annual check for over 1000 dollars just for living here. (What is the annual oil payout now in Alaska?)
