Since my premise is that short rates will rise in '98, the thing I'm trying to get a handle on is whether this means we'll have a flat yield curve or long rates will rise so that there's still some "curve." My bet is that the long end will rise but not enough to ruin the party. I am not a bond bull. There is no reason for the dollar to be strong given our huge current accounts deficit. I think we are having this "flight to quality" thing.

I know STEI well (I'm from New Orleans). I owned it for a while but got bored. It wasn't good for trading. If times do get hard, more people may do like my family: my cousins, uncle, and mother all went or are going to the med school. No fuss, no muss. And no profit. Talk about eliminating the middle man!
