Jack, >> There was something about Active-X...some kind of a lawsuit.. <<
Jack,
I don't know about a lawsuit re: Active-X. But Active-X as being touted by Microsoft is just another name for OLE (Object Linking and Embedding). Of which the patent rights to OLE is owned by (Hee! Hee!, guess who? Right, IBM). Microsoft I THINK (and this may be convoluted, and maybe someone who has it straight can jump in), was trying to get royalties for Active-X (as in OLE), and there was a stink because they were only granted the rights to use OLE (by IBM, Hee! Hee!).
The time, I believe is coming due, and with the patent restrictions now off of IBM (Hee Hee, well, you get the picture). What I think Micro(LIARS)soft wanted to do with Active-X was DONATE (gag!, choke!, gasp!) out of the goodness of their hearts Active-X as an "Open Standard" (gasp!, choke!, gurgle!). The big joke though (at least at IBM was, Hee! Hee! -- I sure hope someone from Microsoft is reading this), was:
Boy, MSFT sure got balls! How in the hell can they grant rights to something they don't even own the rights to themselves?
Well, I guess they CAN, if your cojones are as BIG as his billness!
