I really doubt they're referring to the quality of construction used, e.g., by the American military. The Arabs in Palestine have used homemade grenades in the past.

Perhaps the most difficult to obtain part would be a modern-day chemical detonator. But a reasonable substitute can be crafted from rifle rounds. Particular if you aren't much interested in the life of the person who will be throwing it.

Now, I seriously doubt they would see it being to their advantage to send in an army of children with grenades. The only real thing they have going for them right now is the media, and if they start sending in an army of kids that is going to evaporate pretty quickly, I'd think. But I think you're overestimating how difficult it would be to build crude grenades.

As to getting the materials, you are aware they are getting stuff from Egypt, right? And some people would argue that if Iran can get them, so can Hamas.
