I just found this board - this is great! Here is a post I placed today on the Shark Attack Boards.

FWIW -
I have been following Sunrise Technologies (SNRS) since September, 1997.

On November 20, 1997, I attended a presentation by one of the surgeons doing the trials of Sunrise Technologies LTK laser treatments for hyperopia. At the end of the presentation, the attendees were allowed to watch several procedures that were performed by Dr. Alan Aker. I watched two of the procedures and I am still scratching my head because I felt like I had just attended a "faith healing". What I witnessed was nothing short of a miracle, and
I do not use the word lightly. The procedures took only FOUR SECONDS total and I spoke with the patients afterward about their results. It took between 10 minutes and 20 minutes for the patients to immediately "see" the results. It also seems that the patients are successfully treated for near as well as far sighted vision. The procedure could only be done in one eye, as the FDA has required them to wait six months to treat the second eye.

I took some notes and I shall share with you the following:
1. LTK means Laser Thermal Keratoplasty.
2. Unlike RK, PRK/LASIK, LTK is a NON-CONTACT MODE procedure. I believe this means there is NO SCARING of the cornea. This is a big benefit to patients needing catarac surgery in later years. It allows for fewer complications than those patients treated with RK, PRK, etc.
3. Unlike eximer laser treatments where there has been some injury to some patients, the trials of LTK have as yet, yielded NO INJURY to any patients. It seems the FDA is viewing this safety factor very favorably.
4. REGRESSION CURVE - Is more stable than for the two already-approved eximer lazer treatments. In fact the trials have had NO REGRESSION which is the big misconception about this procedure.
5. FACTS:
a. There are 36 million hyperobic patients. That equals 72 million eyes. If only 10% are treated with LTK @ $100 per eye (that is the payment SNRS receives from each procedure) that equals $720 million.
b. PRK/LASIK LTK
Machine Cost $500,000 $200,000
Maintenance + $100,000 (Have to check number if there is one)
+ 60,000 Kera Source (?) $100 to SNRS
+Royalties
Procedure cost $2,500 per eye $500/$700 per eye

6. They expect to sell 400 lasers the first year and 1000 lasers one to two years after approval

Due to the accellerated pace and excellent results of the trials, SNRS expects to get pre market approval by October, 1998 and FDA approval by the first quarter 1999.

THOUGHTS: At the moment, this is a one product company (as far as I can tell), as they sold their dental laser portion of their business. Earnings are slim as, obviously, this company must finish Phase III to get approval from the FDA before they can sell their lasers. There seems to be no competition on this particular laser procedure (LTK).

I believe I have made as accurate a presentation as one can for a layman, but you can always check out their website and call the company!!! ww.sunrise-tech.com - Check it out - Do your own homework and if I can find out any further information, I will post it!

Like I said, I couldn't believe my eyes when I witnessed those procedures and spoke with the patients afterward.
