All good points Heg.. the numbers I use are illustrative as the market will always try to beat its own predictability. They are a simple binomial of eight consecutive closes for 255 trading days done by Kent Calhoun in Stocks & Commodities magazine. I agree with you that there are 'streaks,' and it would be interesting to me to know what the clustering is, perhaps a down day/up day distribution chart would show lumpiness around 3 days each side of center.
