Jim: not remote sensing per se. Laser communications systems. Also spacecraft. Some applications use it as a reflective surface and others for thermal regulation. I spent a couple years of my life in the early 80s building the fine guidance system for the Hubble Space Telescope, like an onion inside and out with every layer of fragile structures all coated with gold mylar. It's breathtaking to see something that large covered with gold, easy to imagine why the ancients revered it.
