Kenneth, if loco's following post is correct, then the total State public and other employees have options available for either mass disobedience defying the court system and over whelming the system, shutting down the legal systems, fire, police, transportation system, trash pickups, stranding cars during the high traffic times on highways, etc. shutting down the whole state and essential services. If you figure four individuals per family you would see a State come to a halt. Naturally, the guard may be called in to support the Power Brokers. But, can't you see the trash backing up on the street, street gangs going nuts without fire or police protection, individuals not being able to get to work, nor manufactures nor stores obtaining products.
Our civilization is based on a law abiding society which respects the rights of individuals to obtain a livable salary or wage. We see what has happened to the Southern States poverty rates within those states who are right of work states, where workers have very little rights, are "in kind" employees, are independent contractors, and can be fired at will without contracts.
History shows what has happened in the past: sweat shop, lack of employee protection rights, etc. and the elimination of the middle class. It appears that with digitalization/robotics/automation, that the future worker is going to be working for autocrats in corporations and government. Pure capitalism which becomes greedy ultimately will fall from mass disobedience when individuals basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare are not met. With those of us on retirement pensions, what happens if a corporation goes into bankruptcy, or the government does not fulfill our pension obligations?
Most individuals do not realize how many tactics are available to bring the opposition to their knees. However, it requires the collective action and B__ls to take such action in order to bring the opposition to their knees. Then, again, salary or wage earners can get involved in the political process and change the US House, and keep the Senate who are for the common person.
Yes, the above is playing hard ball! Emotional or physical fear does many times bring the parties to their common sense. I have alway taken the position, "Until both parties (countries, management and labor, (real of imaginary) perceive the consequences of not settling are greater that the consequences of settling, settlement does not occur." Many times it is "War between the HAVES and HAVE NOT'S."
It appears that this is what is occurring between Russia and the US and European nations. When Putin begins to REALLY feel the economic pain he will probably will not come to his senses. The same is occurring between Israel and Hamas.
