Remember........the govt will lie to down play a situation.

If you read the true account of the Reston, Virginia situation in the 90's, you know that interviews done with govt officials confirm the priority is to NOT GENERATE PANIC IN THE COMMUNITY and that they admitted that they LIED TO HIDE THE FACTS FROM THE PUBLIC.

Try to get sources from individuals, bloggers, etc close to the situation. The LAST place to go for information is any government official. Not tin foil hat conspiracy, they admitted they must lie so as not to cause panic. It will be harder this time for the lies to take hold due to the internet. Too many people will be posting things as they develop.
