What's everyone's experience with IB's secure login devices?

I'm frustrated with mine.

Here's my history of four ways of logging in:

1. For quite a few years, I used an old token device looked like a pocket-size calculator. It was totally reliable. A bit clunky, but it always worked and that's what I needed. IB told me it was retiring those devices and replacing them with new ones.

2. IB sent me the new style device, which looks like a credit card. It has thin membrane buttons and a gray display. I carry it in my wallet instead of in my pocket. I don't like it much. The buttons are hard to use, but the big problem is the display -- after a few weeks it develops black spots that make it impossible to read. The black spots develop suddenly, and then they grow.

I returned this defective first credit-card-style device to IB.

3. As a temporary solution, IB provided me a PDF file of code numbers I could print, for login. These are less secure than the device that requires a PIN, but they sure are easier to use. Much easier.

4. Then IB sent me a replacement credit-card-style device. I sent them the first one back (if I didn't, I would pay a penalty -- what a hassle).

The replacement credit-card-style device is also defective. It worked for about a month, then it developed black spots. So now I have to repeat this exercise of replacing the device.

What kind of experience has everyone else had?
