Within the last week another confrontational hotspot comes to life Armenia backed by Russia and Azerbaijan, a pro-western former Soviet republic.

Some 10 to 15 soldiers killed in skirmishes in a disputed area, of Nagorno-Karabakh region. This is the result of another anomaly resulting from WWI where Russia ceded half of Azerbaijan to Iran, carved out part of Armenia and Turkey was able to take possession of part of Armenia committing horrific atrocities at the time murdering an estimated 2 million or more Armenians.

The whole region of Eastern Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan Iran and Kurdistan is another dormant conflict zone ready to explode in violent conflict as a time that huge hydrocarbon deposits are in the Caspian basin area and Kurdistan.

Of course there are substantial ethnic religious and heritage differences and nationalistic pride within each population/nationality and historically it was of course a region with substantial unrest and wars up to today Dagestan and it may well be a prelude of taking over Georgia which is the link between the Caspian basin energy deposits and Turkey in its way to Europe and an alternative to Russian NG and crude oil supply through Ukraine

This may be another flashpoint to be watched as grievances on each party mentioned above date back to before WWI to the conflicts between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire

... and just forgot to mention - Libya is again in great turmoil and rebels took control of Benghazi and Tripoli is again conflict zone - and obviously no one cares
