Bonnie, a rare case where it (Ag) actually suffers from either sulphidation or nitration (?) (formation of sulphides and nitrates), but not oxidation. But gold has quite a number of additional advantages, apart of its inertness, it is a fantastic electrical and thermal cconductor (so are copper and silver but they do not possess the environmental stability of gold).
