Rocky -

Spring is a release date?

There's nothing firm here at all. Here's a quote from the press release you referred to (emphasis mine):

"Sony and Fujifilm plan to introduce this system in spring 1998. The two companies have already received support for the basic specifications of the system from Alps Electric Co., Ltd. and TEAC Corporation. In the future, Sony and Fujifilm will propose the specifications of the system to a wide range of PC and drive manufacturers."

Still sounds a bit vague to me.
