In my younger years, everyone I knew worked. It was just accepted that you had to work. I am not sure that is true anymore. I know people who would rather take a hand out than take a job that pays less than previous job. Others that are on SSI or SSDI won't get a job for fear of losing the free income or having it reduced.

I look at the probable affect on the stock market to be OK for consumer staples and for luxury items. I would be concerned about non-essential products built for the American middle class. Companies that make products that improve business productivity should do well.
